Glynn County imposes 90‑day moratorium on new conservation‑subdivision applications

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Jan. 15 to enact a temporary 90‑day moratorium on the acceptance of new applications for conservation subdivisions under Glynn County zoning ordinance section 6.26 and the county subdivision regulations.

Commissioner Duncan, who introduced the item, said several recent conservation‑subdivision approvals had not matched the intent the board expected when that overlay was adopted and recommended a pause to allow staff and commissioners to review and, if necessary, amend the ordinance language. “We can work through, get the better language in place so that we get a product that we believe is going to be beneficial,” Duncan said.

County staff clarified that the moratorium applies only to new submissions after the effective date and does not affect conservation‑subdivision applications already submitted before the moratorium. The resolution passed unanimously, with commissioners noting the moratorium could be extended if needed or council could revise the ordinance permanently.

The board directed staff to inventory pending and recently approved conservation‑subdivision applications, identify specific ordinance language of concern and return with draft amendments or recommendations within the moratorium period.
