Terrebonne Parish Council elects Brian Pledger chair and Clayton Wazan vice chair

The Terrebonne Parish Council elected Councilman Brian Pledger as council chair and Clayton Wazan as vice chair during its Jan. 14, 2026 meeting, with members recording unanimous votes to close nominations and elect both officers.

Brian Pledger, who had been nominated from the floor, thanked colleagues after his election and said he would 'lead with dignity, pride, honesty, most of all respect.' He described his background as a native of the Mechanicsville community, military service, postsecondary education and private-sector leadership, and said he returned to Terrebonne Parish to 'help lead' and give back to the community.

Clayton Wazan was elected vice chair by the same unanimous margin. Wazan offered brief remarks of thanks and noted the result was personal and meaningful to him.

The council conducted the elections at the outset of the meeting, following roll call and affirmation of a quorum. Members then continued with routine agenda business, including approval of minutes and bill lists.

Next steps: with leadership in place, the council moved to committee reports and a slate of public-hearing notices and ordinance actions scheduled for later in January.
