Georgia House honors Abbott Massey with resolution, family and colleagues pay tribute

The Georgia House of Representatives read and adopted a resolution honoring Abbott Massey and joined his family on the floor for tributes. Speaker John Burns asked the clerk to read House Resolution 1013, which outlined Massey's decades of public service, including roles in state commerce and tourism, leadership with the Georgia Poultry Federation and involvement with the University of Georgia alumni and foundation.

Louis, identified in the record as a son of Abbott Massey, thanked members for the recognition and recounted his father's ties to the State Capitol dating to the 1940s. "If you read dad's bio, it says he has an undergraduate degree from UGA and a law degree from Emory," Louis told the House, and he closed by saying his father had "a PhD in joy."

Speaker John Burns and other members offered personal anecdotes about Massey's civic involvement and said the House would join the family for photos in the South Ante Room. The resolution was presented to the family by the clerk and the House expressed its regret at Massey's passing in the text of the resolution.
