Two members of the public addressed the Santa Clara County Finance & Government Operations Committee on Jan. 20, 2026.
Jim Stallman, who said he lives in Saratoga’s District 5, urged the county to reduce operational costs by transferring or selling certain county assets. "I think they spend a lot too much," Stallman said, suggesting that Reid Hillview Airport be given to the City of San Jose and that some expressways be returned to cities to realize "tens of millions of dollars" in savings. He also said San Martin functions as an airport for wildfire and sheriff operations and described local corridors such as De Anza as effectively managed under a single jurisdiction.
An online speaker identified in the meeting as "Parent" made serious allegations about past abuse by a doctor and criticized the district attorney’s handling of cases. The commenter said the county "never reported, doctor Klein to the medical board" and urged a public investigation. The comment included names and allegations of criminal conduct; the speaker framed them as personal and community concerns.
County leadership responded that California law limits what officials may disclose about ongoing investigations. Chair Betty Young said the county takes allegations seriously and pointed listeners to the child abuse/neglect reporting hotline at 1‑833‑722‑5437 for filing complaints and for follow-up. "We, up here, are not authorized by law to speak or respond to any specifics of any particular case," she said.
The meeting record shows no committee action was taken on either public comment item; both were heard during the public comment portion of the agenda.
