The Wallingford-Swarthmore administration signaled Jan. 20 it will bring changes to district transportation policy to the February policy committee, with an emphasis on clarifying service to approved before- and after-school programs and reviewing multiple-stop routing.
Dr. Johnson explained that policy 810 is currently silent on transporting students to approved before- or after-school programs even though the district provides those stops in practice. He said addressing the silence in policy will allow the district to provide clearer, safer and more consistent transportation services and avoid ad hoc practice.
On kindergarten transportation, Dr. Johnson said the district is not proposing to remove required transportation and that any changes would be communicated in advance to families. He confirmed the policy work is driven by policy clarification rather than immediate, large cost savings but noted policy changes could influence future service levels.
What's next: the administration will take the policy matter to the February policy committee for discussion, and the finance committee will receive follow-up as part of the budget planning process.
