HDC approves brick and mortar sample for 128125 Bridal Street, requires mortar match

The Nantucket Historic District Commission reviewed brick and mortar samples for a proposed renovation at 128125 Bridal Street and voted to approve the lighter mortar option and require that the mortar joint match the building’s existing profile.

Chase and Steve, representing the applicant, presented two mortar options and a single brick type. Commissioners inspected the panel and staff recommended the lighter mortar as the best match to the existing façade. Chair asked for a motion to approve the rightmost sample; the board approved the motion by voice vote with no recorded opposition.

Commissioners noted that the mortar will darken with age and will be cleaned of biological growth prior to the final appearance being judged in situ. The applicant was thanked and invited to collect the approved bricks following the meeting.
