The Nantucket Historic District Commission voted to approve proposed fenestration changes and the removal of a rear deck at 14 Lyon Street, and the commission supported a historic-determination filing related to foundation work.
Courtney McKechnie, the applicant and agent for the project, said the foundation had been replaced in-kind using hand methods without lifting the structure and that excavation around the foundation would be backfilled so that the elevation would appear as before. Staff preservation planner Holly said photographs in the application packet showed areas that prompted a closer review of whether the foundation elevation had been altered; she asked the commission to make the determination rather than approving on consent.
After questioning and review of the like-kind documentation, the commission moved to approve the windows and stairs as a like-kind application and then voted to support the historic-determination relief. Both motions were carried unanimously. The applicant was instructed to provide representational drawings and clarifications to address questions about apparent discrepancies in the submitted photographs.
