The board voted to refer a five‑year renewal of the Multnomah County history levy to the May 2026 ballot. Diane McKeel and Janice Dilg, co‑chairs of the levy oversight committee, and Keri Chimchuck, executive director of the Oregon Historical Society, told the board levy funding has supported exhibitions, attendance growth and construction projects across five organizations and that the proposed renewal would maintain the existing rate — meaning no tax increase for county residents.
Speakers said levy dollars have enabled free admission for county residents to the Oregon Historical Society and the four East County history organizations (Gresham, Troutdale, Crown Point and East County organizations), and that a citizen oversight committee meets at least twice yearly to ensure compliance with levy language. McKeel noted past renewals were approved by overwhelming margins and the oversight committee believes the levy has worked as intended.
A public commenter (Lightning) voiced support for the renewal. The board moved and seconded the resolution and adopted it by roll call; the chair stated the resolution was adopted and the measure will appear on the May 2026 ballot.
