Beaufort County officials celebrated two community-center groundbreakings in early January.
On Jan. 7 the county broke ground for the Wesley E. Felix Community Center at 100 and 79 Ballpark Road on St. Helena Island. County Council member York Glover spoke at the ceremony about the role of baseball in St. Helena’s history and community life.
On Jan. 9 the county held a second groundbreaking for the Agnes A. Major Community Center at 21 Agnes Major Road in Sheldon. Council member Gerald Dawson spoke about Agnes A. Major’s accomplishments and her impact on the community.
The county aired the ceremonies on its YouTube channel and local cable access, the program reported. Officials did not provide construction budgets or estimated completion dates in the broadcast.
What’s next: county officials and community partners will proceed with construction and outreach; viewers can watch the recorded ceremonies on the county’s channels.
