Milford outlines curriculum updates, expands College Credit Plus and electives

Board members received a multi-part curriculum update on Jan. 15 covering program changes, expanded electives and technology and safety measures.

District staff said the social studies curriculum review found the program in "solid shape" with only minor improvements recommended. Proposed new electives at the middle school (agriculture, medical detectives, global cultural exploration) and at the high school (dance and movement, yoga, circuits, agriculture) were described; staff said at least one course (dance and movement) will be offered at no additional cost to the district.

The board also discussed a shift to an embedded College Credit Plus model that lets qualified high-school teachers deliver college-credit courses in the high school classroom to lower costs and improve equity. Kindergarten registration will open Feb. 1 and run through March 31, and an informational session is scheduled for Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. at Mulberry Elementary.

Staff noted technology and safety updates: rollout of two-step authentication for grades 9–12 and formation of an internal AI committee to review a recently released state model AI policy and return recommendations to the board.

The board approved curriculum pay at $25 per hour (not to exceed 20 hours) to support social studies curriculum work and approved proposed courses for the 2627 school year by unanimous roll call.
