Board elects Billy Fitzwater chair, Jason Jenkins vice chair; agenda amended to add executive session

The Weston County School District board on Monday reorganized its leadership and approved routine business, then voted to move into an executive session to discuss a student matter.

Board members nominated and approved Billy Fitzwater as board chair after Trustee Jenkins withdrew a prior nomination. A member formally nominated Fitzwater: "Mister superintendent, I nominate Billy Fitzwater." The board seconded the nomination and approved it by voice vote.

Jason Jenkins was nominated and confirmed as vice chair after a voice vote by board members who raised hands to indicate assent. The board also confirmed Joe as clerk and Dana Mann as treasurer by voice vote.

The board moved to amend the agenda to add an executive session (item I) to discuss a student matter. The motion to amend passed by voice vote. After amending the agenda, the board approved the full agenda and then approved the consent agenda, voting on items A–E and G together and taking item F separately because a board member abstained on that item due to a conflict of interest.

The session closed its public proceedings by voting to enter executive session to discuss the student matter; the motion to enter executive session passed by voice vote.

The board did not provide additional public details about the student matter before adjourning the open portion of the meeting to executive session.
