Talladega Council approves weed abatements and nuisance orders

The Talladega City Council on Jan. 2026 held a public hearing on weed abatements and approved actions to abate overgrown properties now limited to parcels identified as 65, 73, 74, 75, 76 and 77. Council members said several properties previously on the list had been removed prior to the hearing.

During the public hearing, Council President (unnamed in the transcript) asked whether any property owners were present to discuss their abatements and then called for a motion. "Mr. Denny has made a motion to approve," the clerk said, and the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.

The council followed with a separate motion to approve nuisance orders for a longer list of parcels related to weed violations; that motion also passed by voice vote. The agenda discussion noted the distinction between the properties removed earlier and those remaining on the list.

The council did not record a roll-call tally for the weed-abatement votes; the items were approved by voice. The council moved on to other agenda business after the approvals; no additional conditions or deadlines for compliance were stated on the record at the hearing.

The council is expected to return to routine enforcement and follow up administratively as needed.
