Senate passes multiple House bills on third reading; amendments adopted

The Massachusetts Senate on Jan. 20 held third readings and passed multiple House bills to be engrossed, adopting sponsor amendments by voice vote.

On the floor, the chamber took up House Bill 3916, "An act authorizing the city of Westfield to establish an age limit for original appointment to the position of police officer." After its third reading the Senate voted by voice to pass the bill to be engrossed.

The Senate then considered House Bill 4233, an amendment to the charter of the city of Malden. The senator from Middlesex, Mister Lewis, presented an amendment that the clerk read aloud; the chamber adopted Lewis's amendment by voice vote and then passed the bill to be engrossed.

Members next addressed legislation relating to certain special revolving funds in the town of Atholl (House documents referenced in the record). Miss Comerford moved an amendment inserting language from senate document number 2812; the amendment was adopted by voice vote and the bill was passed to be engrossed.

All three actions were resolved by voice votes with the presiding officer announcing "the ayes have it." The session record shows no roll-call tallies in the transcript for these items.

The Senate also received papers from the House, including a petition from Megan Kilcoyne concerning condominium owners' rights; the petition was suspended under joint rule 12 and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.
