Washington County Board honors school-level and county teachers of the year

The Washington County School Board opened its meeting with special recognitions, honoring teachers of the year from across the division and naming a county-level winner who will be forwarded for state consideration.

Mister Lambert introduced the event and described the selection process: schools form nomination committees and winners are submitted to the central office for review; school-level winners receive a certificate and $100, level winners receive an additional $150 (total $250) and a bell/plaque, and the county winner receives an additional $100 and will be entered in the state teacher-of-the-year process. "The opportunity to recognize and celebrate and honor our teacher of the year truly is a blessing," Lambert said.

Presenters announced honorees from elementary, middle and high schools and the CTE center. Several winners offered brief remarks thanking family, colleagues and students. The county-level winner (announced as Miss Amy Dewey) spoke about a 31-year career and the influence of her father, a teacher and coach: "It has been a true honor and a blessing," she said, describing teaching as "the best job in the world." Board members offered congratulatory remarks and encouraged the honorees' continued engagement in the division.

Board members and staff invited the honorees and their guests to take group photographs before resuming the regular agenda.
