Charlie Nichols of Linn County Planning and Development presented four applications for urban revitalization tax abatement tied to the Dallas Farm development, saying the plan exempts qualifying residential dwellings from property taxes for a 10-year period.
"Dallas farm has an urban revitalization plan that goes along with the development and dwellings within the Dallas Farm development are exempt from residential property taxes for a period of 10 years," Nichols said, and he listed the four addresses seeking abatement: 6866 Cabbage Patch Place, 6872 Cabbage Patch Lane, 6930 Hack Berry Loop and 6849 Cabbage Patch Lane. Nichols recommended approval, stating the applications meet the criteria outlined in the county’s urban revitalization plan.
Board members discussed whether the item was listed on the consent agenda or the regular agenda for the upcoming formal meeting; staff and members said the item had been amended and would be corrected before the agenda was issued. No formal approval of the abatements occurred during the work session; the board indicated the matter will be on the agenda for the next meeting where formal action can be taken.
Next step: the resolution authorizing the abatements will be placed on the board’s upcoming meeting agenda for a vote; until then, applications remain pending staff recommendation.
