Conroe ISD board authorizes transition of Education Foundation to district‑affiliated entity

Conroe ISD trustees on Jan. 20 authorized the superintendent to negotiate and execute a memorandum of understanding to transition the Conroe ISD Education Foundation from an independent volunteer board to a district‑affiliated foundation.

District staff described the change as a request from the foundation’s volunteer board and as returning the foundation to the form it held when established in 2001. Staff told trustees the transition would keep donor funds restricted and governed by a volunteer foundation board, would not fold donor funds into the district operating budget, and would preserve legacy scholarships.

As part of the proposal the district asked to provide administrative and staffing support through the district communications department and requested two positions to support the foundation. Staff outlined a proposed cost model of 51% district funding and 49% foundation funding for those positions. The board’s motion authorized the superintendent to enter a letter of intent and then proceed with MOU negotiations and any staffing actions necessary to support the transition. Trustees approved the motion by unanimous vote (7–0).

Board members thanked the foundation’s volunteer leaders for 25 years of service and said the move should increase long‑term sustainability and alignment of fundraising and district priorities. Acting staff and the foundation’s executive director were thanked for coordinating planning for upcoming foundation events and the transition timeline.
