The Chicago Board of Education voted unanimously to begin a closed session at a Jan. 20, 2026 special meeting and announced a one-week extension to the Local School Council (LSC) candidate application deadline.
President Harden opened the meeting and announced the board was extending the LSC candidate application deadline by one week to Jan. 27 and directed listeners to cps.edu/lsc for details. The board then moved into public participation and later into executive session.
Member Pope moved "for the passage of motion number MO-0120-MO1 and the commencement of a closed session to consider matters permitted under section 2(c)(1) of the Illinois Open Meetings Act," and the board conducted a roll-call vote. The roll call recorded 17 ayes and 0 nays; the Board Secretary stated, "This motion is adopted by the board." The board reconvened and the Board Secretary noted there were no items to vote on from the executive session.
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that was seconded and carried. The board noted a subsequent regular meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at 42 West Madison Street, Garden Level Boardroom.
