Staff provided the commission with an overview of the senior center’s December newsletter and calendar of events, highlighting in-person programs and volunteer needs.
Rick, who presented the update, said the annual holiday craft fair at City Hall on Dec. 3 was well attended by staff and shoppers and that the center will host a Festival of Lights trip on Dec. 16 and a daytime senior holiday party on Friday, Dec. 19. The newsletter also lists sign-up day for programs, exercise and art classes, a book club and a Red Hat Divas event. An HIV awareness presentation is scheduled for Dec. 10. Staff noted the center will close early on Dec. 18 to set up for the holiday party.
Rick also said the newsletter includes a two-page calendar, social-service information, the monthly menu, and an advertisement page. He flagged a need for AARP tax-preparation volunteers for the upcoming tax season and noted veteran services with George Messier meet monthly. When asked if printed copies would be available at the office, Rick said he would coordinate with Ruth to provide them.
No public commenters were signed up for this meeting. The commission set its next meeting for Jan. 2 and adjourned after holiday remarks from the presiding officer.
