Redondo Beach swears in new police chief and honors state champion Redondo Union cross country team

At the opening of its regular meeting the Redondo Beach City Council presented certificates recognizing the Redondo Union High School boys cross country team for winning the CIF Division I state championship and for placing 13th at the Nike national championships. Coach Bob Leach and two student athletes accepted the recognition; Coach Leach praised the team’s training and community support.

Later the council ceremonially swore in Steven Springle as the city’s new police chief. City Clerk Allen Ormanzano administered the oath. Chief Springle thanked family, former colleagues and city leaders; staff described the ceremony as ‘ceremonial’ with a brief speech and pinning. The chief said he looks forward to serving the department and the community.
