Jefferson County commissioners approved several routine items on the consent agenda, including a coroner office request for funds to pay for software development and two information-technology contract actions to bolster security and network resiliency.
A coroner’s office representative said the request was to pay for software development for a database the office uses and that the county has worked with the vendor for years. Following a motion and second, commissioners approved the coroner funding request by voice vote.
An IT representative described two contract items. The first was an update to a contract with Veronis, an existing security-audit vendor; staff said the amendment is a $0 change to ensure the vendor supports county data retention requirements for five years. The second item adds an additional internet connection at a colocation facility near UAB to improve connectivity after a prior outage; staff said the county had brought in AT&T previously and wanted a second source to maintain cloud connectivity. The commission approved both IT items by voice vote.
Commissioners handled other routine procurement and administrative reports as consent items during the meeting.
Next steps: IT staff will proceed with contract updates and the colocation connectivity work; coroner’s office will proceed with the planned software work.
