SEIU Local 73 urges CPS to make custodians whole after transition to board employment

Tremaine Reeves, director of the CPS division for SEIU Local 73, told the board that custodians who transitioned from private employment to board custodians on Sept. 30, 2025, continue to await a step 2 wage adjustment that would restore their prior hourly pay.

Reeves said many workers have documentation showing they cleaned the same schools for years and that the step 2 adjustment amounts to about $2 per hour. He estimated that difference could equal roughly $200 per pay period or about $400 per month for affected employees and asked the board for urgency in resolving the issue so staff can "be made whole and be able to comfortably provide for their families."
