Senator moves Senate adjournment; budget speech and committee meeting times set

On the floor a senator identified in the transcript as the 'Senator from Chittenden' moved that the Senate stand adjourned until 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, and asked colleagues to return to the chamber at 12:55 p.m. ahead of the governor’s budget address.

The senator stated, "I would move that the Senate stand in adjournment until 1PM Wednesday, 01/21/2026," and asked that "everyone come back to the Chamber at 12:55" to assemble before the speech. The presiding officer put the question and the motion carried by voice vote.

Several committee meeting times were announced for the morning and after the governor’s address: Senate Health & Welfare, Judiciary, Transportation, Economic Development, Housing & General Affairs, Natural Resources & Energy, Agriculture, Government Operations (joint with House counterpart at 2:30 p.m.), Appropriations, and Finance. The Senate also recognized a birthday for Senator Joseph Major; a Windsor district senator invited colleagues to wish him well on the floor.

The Senate then stood adjourned until the scheduled time; the transcript records no further debate on the adjournment motion.
