The Board of Equalization unanimously approved proposed findings of fact and conclusions of law in five appeals of assessor charitable-exemption determinations during a brief meeting Dec. 22 that ran from 2:00 to 2:09 p.m.
Chair Miss Markwood opened the meeting and a quorum was confirmed by the clerk. The board considered appeals tied to PAN numbers 0217093, 0217158, 0217107, 0217255 and 0136646. For each case a board member moved to accept the findings and conclusions of law and another board member seconded; each motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
The first case, PAN 0217093, brought by Janela Kamai, was moved, seconded and approved unanimously. The board then discussed whether to bundle items or vote on each individually; members agreed to address each item separately.
During consideration of PAN 0217158, one board member commended the attorney who prepared the summary, saying, “I think it was challenging for the attorney to decipher all the thoughts there and that you did an excellent job.” That item and the remaining appeals (PAN 0217107, PAN 0217255 and PAN 0136646) were each approved 4-0 after routine motions and seconds.
Madam Clerk confirmed the practice from previous meetings that written copies of the approved findings and conclusions will be mailed to the appellants and to the assessor. With no further business, Chair Markwood adjourned the meeting at 2:09 p.m.
The actions recorded at the meeting were administrative approvals of the board’s proposed findings and conclusions in appeals of charitable-exemption determinations; no further votes or substantive policy changes were taken.
