Board discusses enrollment dip, student activities and career-readiness programs

Trustees reviewed enrollment changes, student activities and career-readiness efforts during the meeting, and described how program scheduling and testing windows affect participation.

Board members and staff discussed enrollment: packet figures and in-session remarks cited numbers ranging from roughly 223 at the start of the year to 216 in later counts, with full-time in-building enrollment reported as 199 to 198 in different remarks. Board and staff acknowledged some students shifting to virtual or homeschool options and said enrollment can remain fluid during semester changes.

Athletics participation was highlighted: Tyler reported 22 girls wrestling and 38 boys participating in basketball. Staff also noted testing windows and planning for state assessments such as NAEP in February and other interim assessments.

On career and technical education, Bryce said the career trade fair on Feb. 18 has about 95 RSVPs; he also reported six students enrolled in the after-school CNA class this semester and ongoing planning for a CDL class in partnership with Eastern Wyoming College and local businesses.

Board members asked questions about scheduling conflicts for student-athletes and how after-school programs might require trade-offs; staff cited previous practice with driver’s ed hours as an example of working around athletic schedules.
