LaPorte County solid-waste board elects Tom Dermody chair, approves minutes and claims

The LaPorte County Solid Waste District Board elected Mayor Tom Dermody of LaPorte as chair at its Jan. 14 meeting and approved a slate of routine administrative items, including minutes from Dec. 10, 2025 and the January claims docket.

“I nominate mayor Tom Dermody for the city of La Porte,” said an attendee who moved the nomination; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The board likewise named Commissioner Holofield vice chair after a seconded nomination and voice vote.

Board members then moved to approve the Dec. 10 minutes and the claims packet. The claims docket included payments tied to a recent fire at the district compost site; staff confirmed an insurance payment had been received and said they would proceed to ensure vendors are paid. The motion to approve claims carried on a voice vote.

The board adjourned after completing the day’s organizational business.
