Grand Rapids board approves replacement tractor purchase for Public Works

The Grand Rapids Town Board approved a Public Works request to purchase a replacement tractor after the quoted price rose above the originally budgeted figure.

Public Works reported that the originally listed capital items totaled $49,400 with the tractor previously quoted at about $43,200. Board members reported receiving a revised quote for the tractor at approximately $50,000. To absorb the price increase, Public Works proposed removing other listed capital items so the tractor purchase could proceed without materially expanding the approved capital budget.

Board members discussed bid requirements for equipment purchases; one member noted that purchases over $50,000 generally require formal bidding. The town will obtain and submit an updated written quote for the tractor price as requested by the board before final documentation is completed.

The board approved the capital outlay adjustment and the purchase motion on a voice vote. Staff said they will provide the updated quote and proceed with procurement consistent with applicable bidding rules.

Next steps: Public Works will supply the written quote for the $50,000 price and the town will follow procurement procedures, including bidding if the final purchase price meets the threshold that triggers bids.
