Two parks-board openings announced as member resigns; February officer elections set

At the Jan. 14 meeting of the Ocean Shores Parks Board, members were told there are two upcoming vacancies on the board — one confirmed resignation and one in-the-moment resignation by a board member who said she will move out of town.

The board chair announced that Becky Carrier is no longer on the board and that another member said, "I'm officially resigning," after selling a house in Ocean Shores in December and preparing to move. The chair noted the mayor had announced openings and reminded the board it must advertise vacancies for one month before filling them.

Why it matters: the resignations will leave two seats open on the parks board ahead of officer elections in February. Board members were reminded that, under a recently adopted ordinance, February is the regular month for electing officers including president, vice chair and a formal secretary; the chair said this will be the first cycle with a formally elected vice chair and secretary.

Procedural actions: members approved the day's agenda and the minutes from the Dec. 10, 2025 meeting at the start of the session. The board scheduled its next meeting for Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the library and moved to adjourn at the close of the meeting.

Board members asked other members to help publicize openings and to encourage potential applicants to step forward; staff said the standard posting period is one month before the board or mayoral appointment.

The board will hold officer elections in February and proceed with filling vacancies per the city's posting rules.
