Allorta Lopez, program coordinator for Glendale Library Arts & Culture, told the commission on Jan. 15 about a string of upcoming events and open calls for artists.
Events include a virtual author talk with Julia Hotz on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 11 a.m.; a culinary medicine session with Dr. Desmonette Hasley on Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Library Connection; and an art talk for the Viajero del Tiempo exhibition at Brookfield Space on Thursday, Jan. 22 from 6:30–7:45 p.m. The Phoenix Rising installation at Adams Square Mini Park (a room-sized sculpture using donated clothing) is on view through March 20, 2026, and an artist reception hosted by the Adams Hill Neighborhood Association is scheduled for Jan. 24 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Staff also reminded commissioners about artist opportunities: the Brand Summer Music Series, the Jewel City Concert Series and a Public Art Landmarks RFQ (including Pacific Park Murals and pavilion opportunities). The application window for these programs closes Friday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m.; staff directed interested artists to the links provided in the staff report.
What’s next: staff asked commissioners to share outreach responsibilities, particularly to youth and community media, and said the ACE agency and other PR partners will support a final outreach push before the Jan. 30 deadline.
