During the Jan. 15 meeting the Johnson County Board of County Commissioners approved two appointments and later recessed into an executive session on a personnel matter.
Commissioner Ashcraft moved to appoint Gail James (first District nominee) and Gregory Mains (fifth District nominee) to the Johnson County Public Art Commission; Commissioner Allenbrand seconded and the motion passed on roll call, 7‑0. Commissioners thanked Mr. Mains for his fiscal experience and public service.
Commissioner Ashcraft also moved to appoint Andrea Watts (fifth District nominee) to the Johnson County Juvenile Corrections Advisory Board. Commissioner Allenbrand seconded; the motion passed 7‑0.
Later in the meeting Commissioner Hanslick moved that the board recess into a 20‑minute executive session under the statutory authority cited on the record (KSA 75 43 19(b)(2)) for consultation with legal counsel about a non‑elected personnel matter involving the Department of Public Health; the county manager, deputy county manager, assistant county manager Darren Leiker, Director of Public Health Charlie Hunt, Director of Human Resources Kayla Holloway, and chief counsel were listed to attend. The motion was seconded and approved by roll call, 7‑0.
When the board returned the chair stated the record out of executive session and that no action had been taken. The meeting then adjourned and the board scheduled a study session to follow the recess.
The appointments and the executive session were recorded on the meeting transcript; no additional materials or votes were submitted publicly at the time of the meeting.
