SHAC notes prom pop‑up, security dogs and early reports on cell phone policy implementation

Chair announced the Ellis County prom pop‑up on Feb. 23–24 serving students across Ellis County and North Texas and requested donations (dresses, suits, shoes, accessories) and volunteers for set‑up and shopping assistance. "We serviced 584 students this last year," the chair said when summarizing last year’s impact.

Lieutenant Christopher Dickinson provided a short security update: canine detection and related measures continue and have not found substantial contraband recently. "We just we're not finding a lot when we do that stuff," Dickinson said, adding he preferred to believe students are making good choices.

A planned presentation on the district’s new cell phone policy by Perry was postponed because he was at Region 10; SHAC members who have spoken with assistant principals reported that the policy’s rollout "was not near as big of a deal as what we thought" and expressed hope it will reduce student anxiety, with further updates to appear on future agendas.

The chair closed the meeting by reminding members to sign up for the Choosing the Best review work group and to volunteer for the prom pop‑up event.
