Director reports permit activity, staffing and certification classes; three vehicles placed on surplus

The Kankakee City Building and Code Safety Committee received a director’s report Jan. 15 showing continued permitting activity and operational updates.

Director Nelson said the department issued 78 permits in December, with fees totaling $23,900.34, and issued 97 permits in November with fees totaling $27,488.27. Nelson told the committee that certification classes for code officers, previously paused because of low enrollment, are expected to resume in April and May. Nelson also reported the department is fully staffed and that three city vehicles have been placed on surplus.

Committee members asked for an updated list of code officers to be included in the next meeting packet. No formal action was taken on staffing or surplus vehicles; the reports were accepted as presented.
