McKeesport board highlights new CTE protective-services pathway and $30,000 grant

Board members used committee reports to highlight new career and technical education offerings, saying the district has launched an 'aspiring educators' track and a protective-services program that currently enrolls 26 students in the first two years.

One speaker described local workforce needs and said the district is aiming to create pathways so graduates can more readily enter municipal service. He noted "There's a certification to become a firefighter, and it's called firefighter 1," and described a model where program graduates could receive hiring/test advantages used in nearby jurisdictions.

Committee members also said students in the building-construction program built classrooms used by younger students and announced that "We just got a $30,000 grant that's coming through" to support the program. Board members encouraged student enrollment and community partnerships as the district develops credentials and potential city collaborations.
