PDC approves small expansion to Redemption Point church campus

Redemption Point Church sought a conditional use for a modest interior expansion to a youth chapel — a 288‑square‑foot stage bump‑out that increases stage footprint within an existing building. Applicant Kenny Berger told the commission the addition is internal and that building‑department permits for electrical, foundations and HVAC have been approved.

Staff (Joe Hockadell, Principal Planner) said the church was built prior to the current CU requirement for a house of worship in the Medium Density Residential (MDR) district; because the project is an expansion, the LDC requires a conditional use to encompass the entire church property. Staff recommended the CU with conditions and the commission approved the application on a 6‑0 voice vote.

What happens next: the permit process will continue under the conditional‑use umbrella and the applicant can proceed with construction consistent with approved building permits and conditions recorded in the staff report.
