City health official reiterates vaccination guidance, cites new lead‑remediation funding and HUD award

A health department representative told council the city continues to follow state and county vaccination advice and reported recent funding to address lead hazards.

"We are absolutely following the guidance of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Health, the Delaware County Department of Health," the official said, urging residents to consult local public‑health authorities rather than rely on potentially misleading federal headlines or social media. The health official also reported that in December the city received $1,300,000 in funding to address lead in Chester homes and that two days before Christmas the city received notice from HUD of an award of $4,400,000 to continue that work. The speaker emphasized the urgency of lead abatement, particularly for children and pregnant people, and said the effects of lead poisoning are irreversible.

Council thanked the health official and noted the local need for credible public messengers amid national confusion about vaccination policy. No changes to local vaccination guidance were announced at the meeting; the official said existing county and state recommendations remain in force.
