The Cedar Rapids Community School District highlighted student achievements and announced district events during the "Future Ready Today" community podcast.
Hosts reported that 10 CRCSD students were selected for the Northeast Iowa String Teachers Association District Honor Orchestra after a competitive process, and that a combined team from City View, Washington and Kennedy earned second place in the Iowa High School Ethics Bowl at Iowa State University. "We are so proud of how they've represented the Cedar Rapids Community School District on the regional stage," the hosts said.
The podcast also promoted a Feb. 4 "Navigating life after high school" event, presented in partnership with the Arc of East Central Iowa, aimed at students with IEPs and their caregivers; the program will include a parent panel discussing transition planning. Registration information was provided in the district newsletter.
Other highlights included classroom and extracurricular activities across district schools: Jefferson High School welcomed baby sheep for an educational visit; West Willow PAC staged a "Fairy Tales on Trial" performance; JSA second graders presented persuasive tableaux about the War of 1812; Viola Gibson fourth graders explored simple machines; TAF students attended a bowling event; and Trailside Elementary students had outdoor recess.
The episode directed listeners to a full board brief video from Director Laura Zimmerman and additional links in the newsletter.
