The Greeley Ice House announced a slate of family-focused winter programs, including an American Girl Doll skate on Jan. 10 and an Olympic-themed event with free learn-to-skate classes on Feb. 28.
Shauna Lutti, a staff member speaking for the Ice House, said the American Girl Doll skate will be Jan. 10 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., with a giveaway of the American Girl Doll of the Year, snacks, friendship bracelets, face painting and free lessons. "If you come to our American Girl Doll event, bring your friends, bring your family, and of course, bring your dolls or stuffies," Lutti said. She added, "Anything is allowed on the ice." Host commentary reiterated the family-friendly nature of the event and that attendees could win the doll.
Lutti said the Ice House is also staging an Olympic-themed session on Feb. 28 from 9 to 11:45 a.m., aimed at veteran skaters of varied disciplines. The session will feature on-ice activities described as curling-style games, archery demonstrations, speed-skating-style events and informal competitions so participants "can compete against each other to take home the gold," Lutti said. She said a separate free "learn to skate" class runs from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. that day; instructors will break participants into age and skill groups: Snowplows for children 6 and younger, basics for ages 6 and over, and a session for adults 16 and up.
Staff also described recent facility updates. Lutti said the concession stand downstairs was renovated to provide food and beverages for late-night hockey and other events, and that beverages are available upstairs during adult hockey sessions held Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday evenings.
For more information and to register for classes or special events, Lutti directed listeners to the city website. "All of the information for classes, programs, and registration as well as special events will be on the city's website," she said. The Host closed the segment with the website address: greeleyco.gov.
The Ice House encouraged families, new skaters and experienced participants to check the city site for registration details, class breakdowns and any changes to dates or times.
