Councilors used closing remarks at the Jan. 12 meeting to flag several upcoming public events. The city will launch a yearlong comprehensive planning process with a consultant presentation at City Hall on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 6:00 p.m., followed by an open studio at the Homewood Senior Center on Thursday, Jan. 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and a public website where residents can review maps and submit input.
A councilor invited residents to participate in the planning process, calling it an opportunity to shape land‑use vision, maps and policies for the city's future. The announcement emphasized broad public participation across neighborhoods and explained the sessions will include map review, consultant presentations and opportunities for verbal and written feedback.
Mayor Jennifer Andrus described a recent salamander migration event and encouraged attendance at the Salamander Festival on Jan. 31 from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.; she said last year’s festival had more than 900 attendees and the city expects over 1,000 this year. The mayor also noted City Hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 19 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reminded residents of the State of the City address on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at the Valley Hotel at 11:30 a.m.
The announcements focused on outreach and civic engagement: the comprehensive‑plan events offer multiple participation formats, and the Salamander Festival is described as a community activity that has drawn large attendance in prior years.
