The Margate Community Redevelopment Agency on Jan. 14 approved two change orders to the Margate Boulevard crosswalk and landscape improvement agreement with FG Construction LLC totaling $37,012.49 and granted an additional 21 days of contract time.
Executive Director Kelly told the board crews encountered areas outside the original scope while working in the field, including driveway aprons at Margate Gardens and the driveway entrance to Fire Station 18 that require repair. "As we've been out there doing work, we've come across a few areas that were outside of the scope of work that are in need of addressing," Kelly said during the meeting.
The two change orders were listed as $12,731.17 (Change Order No. 1) and $24,281.32 (Change Order No. 2). Kelly said additional change orders are likely in the coming months as construction uncovers more sites needing attention, and noted that some pavers had settled in driveways.
Board members discussed landscaping concerns raised earlier by the public, and Kelly clarified that not all mature landscaping along Margate Boulevard will be removed; crews will replace damaged areas and allow new plantings to mature. The board approved the change orders by roll call, with all present members voting yes.
The approved adjustment is intended to address the immediate repair needs without delaying the broader project, staff said. The board did not provide a contract amendment number beyond the listed change-order amounts and the time extension; staff indicated more change orders will return for approval as they are identified.
