Georgetown County Council approved several ordinances on Jan. 13. Highlights and outcomes:
- Ordinance 25-48 (third reading): Rezoned approximately 0.5 acre at 627 Bellamy Avenue from General Residential to General Commercial to align zoning with historic and adjoining uses. Planning recommended approval (6–0). Vote: 7–0.
- Ordinance 25-49 (third reading): Amendment to Magic Oaks FDD removing a kayak launch and relocating an amenity center (discussed in detail in a separate article); vote: 6–1.
- Ordinance 25-50 (third reading): Amendment to the FY25–26 operating budget as outlined in the ordinance; staff recommended approval and council granted third reading approval.
- Ordinance 25-52 (third reading): Amendment to Wilbrook Plan Development to add medical office, professional office and clinical space to permitted uses; Planning Commission recommended approval (6–0). Vote: 7–0.
- Ordinance 25-53 and 25-54: A pair of items rezoned a 31.47-acre parcel on Chip Mill Road from Forest Agriculture to Heavy Industrial and amended the county future land use map to Employment; staff said the change was reasonable given past industrial use on the site. Vote: 7–0.
Additional rezoning motions and future land-use map amendments (including parcels in the Yawkey Medical Park PD and a Margot Lane parcel) were also approved by council across the meeting’s consent and ordinance sections, typically by unanimous voice vote.
What this means: The council’s actions make a mix of zoning corrections, targeted land-use amendments and budget amendments official. Several items were approved with conditions tied to later permitting steps (notably stormwater and construction permitting for developments).
