The Elizabeth School District Board of Education voted Jan. 13 to adopt a resolution to join Education ReEnvisioned BOCES, a Colorado BOCES focused on expanding choice and online programming.
District staff described the BOCES as mission-aligned, emphasizing parental choice and innovative program options such as online and hybrid offerings. Staff said joining carries no membership fee or direct cost to the district and would give Elizabeth a seat at the BOCES board to influence program development and oversight.
During discussion, trustees raised community concerns that BOCES membership could reduce local control. Staff responded that BOCES is run by member districts and that the organization would not make decisions for the district. The staff presentation said joining could create an avenue to explore an Elizabeth-supported online option and provide oversight of existing providers serving students within district boundaries.
A motion to approve the attached resolution to join was moved, seconded and passed by roll call.
The district will next pursue formal membership paperwork and then negotiate a written agreement that defines the terms of participation and who will serve as the district’s representative on the BOCES board.
