Galena’s City Council on Jan. 12 appointed Benjamin Pedigue to fill a Ward 3 vacancy and approved multiple routine and land-use items.
The council voted to appoint Benjamin Pedigue to fill the Ward 3 seat through the first meeting in May 2027. Following the roll-call vote, Pedigue recited the oath of office, saying, "I faithfully discharge the duties of the office of all persons to the best of my ability." Council members welcomed him to the dais.
The council also approved a zoning map amendment requested by William H. Evans that changes parcel 22-100-916-00 from limited agricultural to low-density residential. A council member who moved the measure said the change reflects the parcel’s current use and supports infill housing. The motion passed on a roll-call vote.
Related to the amendment, the council approved on first reading and voted to waive a second reading of an ordinance amending the zoning map for the same parcel (item 26C-0012).
Other formal actions at the meeting included approval of the consent agenda (CA 26-01) and the warrants (item 26C-0014). During warrants discussion a council member asked about a software-support charge of $8,528; staff said the Cassello accounting software is paid semiannually. The council also moved to table the fiscal years 2027–2031 capital improvement plan for future consideration.
Toward the end of the meeting, the council voted to enter executive session under the listed exemptions for pending or imminent litigation and for review of executive session minutes (item 26C-0018).
No formal outcomes were recorded for personnel hiring beyond the Ward 3 appointment, and details discussed in executive session were not disclosed at the meeting.
