Board approves Barolo’s special exception to serve alcohol at 1910 E. Sunrise Blvd.

The Fort Lauderdale Board of Adjustment approved a special exception allowing alcohol service at Barolo, a proposed full-service Italian restaurant at 1910 East Sunrise Boulevard.

Applicant Amanda Phillips said Barolo will be a family-focused, food-driven establishment with alcohol service incidental to dining — she estimated food would account for about 65% of revenue. Phillips told the board the restaurant will close at 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends, will not use amplified outdoor sound, and will require responsible‑vendor training for servers.

A nearby business owner, Alexander of Southern Folk Settlement Rose and Coffee, spoke in support and urged the board to grant the exception, saying the strip needs more traffic and that several storefronts are vacant or at risk of closing.

After brief questions from board members about prior tenants and operations at the site, a member moved to approve the exception. The motion was seconded and passed on roll call; the board congratulated the applicant.

Next steps: the applicant will proceed to secure required business and alcohol permits through the city’s permitting and licensing processes.
