Youth Council confirms travel plans for National League of Cities conference; fundraising nearly complete

The Cape Coral Youth Council reviewed logistics and remaining fundraising needs for the National League of Cities (NLC) Congressional City Conference scheduled in mid-March.

Advisor Hayden and staff explained that flights would depart Friday morning, March 10, and the conference agenda runs March 13–17; the group will stay at the Westin and will visit both the U.S. Capitol and the White House. Hayden recommended taking the Washington Metro from Reagan National Airport to the hotel, citing a typical fare of $2–$4 and a 20-minute travel time in contrast to a more costly taxi option.

Mrs. Griglin and other advisers reviewed packing and travel notes for students, advising layers and comfortable shoes for a planned amount of walking in D.C. Council members discussed group logistics and confirmed most attendees are booked on the same flights.

On fundraising, staff reported donations including $1,700 from a local donor and $300 from Mayor Gunter; about $1,000 in additional fundraising was still needed. Mrs. Griglin said she was pursuing additional $500 commitments and still working through service clubs such as the Rotary for a larger contribution.

Next steps: finalize flight manifests and luggage guidance, continue targeted fundraising to close the remaining gap, and prepare itinerary materials for students prior to departure.
