Commission approves conditional use for gravel storage at HERC Rentals on MLK Boulevard

The Jonesboro planning commission approved a conditional use permit allowing HERC Rentals to construct a gravel storage area on a lot north of its existing heavy equipment rental site at 2210 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

John Easley of Associated Engineering described the project and said the BZA had granted a variance for gravel parking: "At 2210 Martin Luther King, they have an existing heavy equipment rental site, and they're looking to put a storage area on a lot north of them," he said. City planning staff recommended approval, adding that upon issuance of conditional use approval all required local and statewide permits and inspections must be applied for and obtained.

Commissioners moved and seconded the item and voted to approve the conditional use. The approval does not remove the need for state or local permits; staff emphasized that other required permits and inspections must still be completed before construction or operation.

The BZA variance for gravel parking and the conditional use allow the storage/parking configuration requested by the applicant, but subsequent compliance with building, zoning and inspection requirements remains necessary.
