Brookdale University Park proposes daytime pickleball court for residents; no lighting or new structures planned

Brookdale University Park, a Brookdale Senior Living facility, presented plans to convert a portion of an existing paved parking area into a pickleball court for resident recreation and therapeutic activities.

Matt Sims of Shoal said the proposal would remove a portion of required parking and replace it with a court enclosed by fencing; there are no new buildings proposed and no lighting improvements planned, because most residents would be indoors before dark. He noted the site has a tall retaining wall on the south side and that there is no immediately adjacent residential development on the other side of the court.

Council had no substantive questions in the pre-council session and the item was placed on the agenda for the Jan. 26 public hearing for formal consideration.
