City of Hollywood official urges commercial building owners to comply with Broward County safety inspections

Daniel Quintana, assistant building official for the City of Hollywood, urged owners of commercial buildings to comply with Broward Countys Building Safety Inspection Program after the county sent notifications earlier this year. "Timely compliance with this program is a legal requirement and not optional," Quintana said.

The notice, Quintana said, applies to commercial properties larger than 3,500 square feet. "Commercial buildings over 3,500 square feet are required to complete their first safety inspection at 25 years and every 10 years thereafter," he said, specifying the inspection cadence owners should expect.

Quintana explained why the inspections matter: they are intended to identify and address potential structural and electrical problems early, reduce the risk of costly emergency repairs and help protect residents and the public. He also said the program helps maintain property values and community standards.

Property owners who received the countys BSIP notification were urged to review the correspondence and to contact their homeowners association or property management company to schedule or confirm inspections. Quintana recommended taking action promptly to avoid violations or penalties.

Quintana framed the message as a community safety measure and closed by asking owners, managers and associations to cooperate to keep the community "safe, informed, and proactive."
