On Jan. 12 the Northglenn City Council unanimously adopted Resolution CR 33 to allocate the city's existing community development block grant (CDBG) fund balance of approximately $780,000 to the Odell Berry Park project and to earmark an estimated $210,000 in program-year 2026 CDBG funds for local food banks.
Interim Director Becky Smith told council that Adams County confirmed the approach and that the food banks will need to apply through the county's competitive application process. She noted that the county caps public-service awards at a maximum of 15% of the county's HUD funding in total; unused 2026 funds could continue to support the city's minor home repair program. Staff recommended approval, and council approved the resolution unanimously.
Council members asked about city support for applicants; Becky Smith said the city can encourage and provide outreach and that staff would confirm the level of participation the city will have in the county's selection process.
The allocation documents staff's preference that funds be used for Northland Food Bank and formalizes the city's intended use in communications with Adams County. Agencies seeking funds must still apply and compete under the county's rules.
