Commission plans summer walking tours, brochure and arts projects; discusses City Beach court artwork

Speaker 1 presented plans to run historic downtown walking tours again this summer, naming Michael Figley as a likely volunteer leader and proposing Sunday 10 a.m. dates to capture weekend foot traffic. She offered to create posters and PR materials and asked Parks & Rec to circulate them through its email lists.

On a related public-information item, Speaker 1 said she will finish a walking-tour brochure draft this month and asked who must sign off before printing; Speaker 2 agreed to check with Cheryl about whether council signoff is required for a city publication.

The commission also discussed art for City Beach's basketball court and nearby building walls. Parks-related coordination and cost estimates were recommended; commissioners suggested partial court art or a mural on a restroom wall rather than painting the entire court surface. Speaker 3 said Parks has a contract to top-coat courts in the spring, so any artistic treatment should be coordinated with that schedule.

Finally, Speaker 1 reminded members the Festival Sandpoint poster contest deadline is Feb. 3, with adult and youth (14 and younger) categories; prizes include sponsor season passes and merchandise. The commission encouraged outreach and submissions.
