Superintendent outlines Phase 2 staffing restructure; district aims to protect classroom staff and add science and finance roles

Superintendent Dr. Fields presented Phase 2 of the district's multi‑phase restructuring plan Jan. 13, saying the changes are intended to protect classroom‑facing positions while modernizing senior leadership and improving finance and instructional alignment.

Phase 2 proposals described by Dr. Fields include eliminating two central office administrative positions, introducing a coordinator of support services to oversee counseling, nursing, wellness and Section 504 services, creating two lead counselor positions and an additional lead nurse, and adding two science coordinator stipends to strengthen K‑12 science alignment. The district also proposes replacing an Instructional Technology Specialist with an Instructional Design and Technology Coordinator to support AI policy alignment and technology integration.

On finance and compliance, Dr. Fields said the district would add an accountant/bookkeeper role to improve audit readiness and internal controls. He estimated combined savings from Phase 1 and Phase 2 at more than $340,000. Positions and stipends are scheduled to be posted Jan. 15 and will undergo legal review.

Board members thanked administration for advancing the work and generally had no objections at the meeting; several asked for clarifying details, and Dr. Fields said advisory groups and committee work will provide community input on budget and staffing. He also said some positions introduced for workload reasons could be sunsetting if external deadlines are met (for example, related temporary RECA support could be phased out after the 2027 deadline).
