Parks board approves beginner mountain-bike expansion at Overly Warman Park

The Town of Zionsville Board of Parks and Recreation approved a proposal to develop additional mountain-bike trails at Overly Warman Park under an existing memorandum of understanding with the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association and the Indy Trail Collective.

Superintendent Jared Logsdon described the plan as designed to “create a flowing course out at Overly Warman Park that would be more of a little, regional destination for our Indy Metro.” He said the concept adds a beginner trail network, adjusts intermediate and advanced alignments for flow and resilience, and minimizes pedestrian–bicycle conflicts with three controlled intersections near paved trail nodes.

Logsdon said the changes would add about 4 miles of mountain-bike trails at Overly Warman Park, bringing the town’s total established mountain-bike trail mileage to roughly 5.25 miles. He emphasized coordination with staff on signage and final alignment and noted the build could begin as early as spring, with a potential grand opening later in the year.

Board members expressed support for diversifying park amenities to attract younger families and regional trail users. After discussion, the board approved the trail improvements by voice vote.

Staff said construction will proceed under the terms of the MOU, and HMBA will assist with ongoing maintenance once segments are complete. Park staff will vet final alignments and signage to conform with International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA) standards and to minimize impacts on the disc golf layout.
